I was introduced to Strand Bookstore the other night and while browsing their unbelievable selection of photography books I noticed America by Zoe Strauss sitting on one of the tables. Which reminded about a blog post I wanted to write about the book.
There has been plenty written about the book already, including an impassioned piece by Liz Kuball, so I’m sure there’s much that I can add. One thing I found interesting was the way she presented the book on Flickr. I think displaying the book the way it’s laid out is an example of the way the web and Flickr can be used to simulate the experience of browsing through the book. Of course, we’re nowhere near replicating the actually experience and I’m not sure we ever will be, but for marketing purposes I think America is a good example of how to use Flickr to promote a book.
Zoe Strauss on Flickr (another good example of how photographers can use Flickr. As a massive, all encompassing sketchbook.)
